From metallic eyes to bright red pouts, the runways in New York, London, Milan and Paris have all seen their fair share of exciting beauty trends for the upcoming season. Some of the best beauty looks graced the runways, and we’ve taken a look at some of the prettiest and most wearable beauty trends from the catwalks for SS16.
The Minimal Base
Perhaps the biggest trend of the week was the “no makeup” look where makeup artists focused on perfecting the face with dewy complexions and minimal coverage. Designers such as Brock, Tory Burch, Alexander Wang, Rag & Bone and Narciso Rodriguez all opted for this glowy, fresh makeup look.
At Rag & Bone, Gucci Westman swapped highlighter for glow-inducing serum to create fresh-faced dewiness. The look was natural and youthful with a dusting of blush on the apples of cheeks and serum down the center of the nose and along the cheekbones for a glowing look.

NARS makeup artist, Diane Kendal, used Triple X Lip Gloss on both lips and eyes at Thakoon to create effortless beauty. Kendal described how she wanted the makeup to have a “light-reflective quality” so she blended a white highlighter on top of the cheekbones, brow bones and down the nose.

Incorporate this trend into your makeup look by using a brightening primer like Estee Lauder’s Illuminating Perfecting Primer. This gives skin an added healthy glow before layering foundation over it. For extra dewiness, sweep a highlighter, such as NARS Copacabana or Benefit’s High Beam, along the cheekbones and down the center of your nose.
The Electric Blue Lids
Blue hues were undoubtedly a standout trend for SS16, whether it was a flick of electric blue liner or full-on splashes of colour across the entire lid. Designers like Jenny Packham, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Monique Lhuillier, Marc Jacobs and Chanel all played with the trend in different variations.
Perhaps the most wearable interpretation of the trend came from Jenny Packham, where makeup artist Talia Sparrow applied shadow halfway to the lid’s crease, finishing the look with a winged flick at the corner of each eye.

On the New York runway of Diane Von Furstenberg, models sauntered down the runway with dewy, bronzed skin and nude lips completed with bold standout eyes.
Makeup artist Pat McGrath gave a nod to ‘70s nightlife with a thick dusting of aquamarine eyeshadow, achieved by wetting the pigment before layering it around the top and bottom lashes and blending deep into the crease.
To create an even bolder blue hue, a tight line of pearly blue liner was drawn along the upper lash line while thick lashes completed the glam ‘70s look.

The Power Pout
Statement lips were seen among many big-name designers and it was the contrast between a flawless bare face and dramatic pout that made this such a modern beauty statement. The look was seen across the catwalks of Victoria Beckham, DKNY, Jenny Packham, Zac Posen, Jason Wu and Marchesa.
Some designers opted for power pouts throughout the show while others, such as Zac Posen, opted for bright lips for just five out of 40 looks, exclusively sported by blondes as and when the lipstick particularly suited the model.
At Jason Wu, Maybelline New York makeup artists created a fresh-faced youthful look with a barely made-up face completed with a bold and modern red lip.
The eyes were kept bare with polished brows, brushed upwards and fanned gently out while a touch of concealer was used to brighten their complexion and conceal blemishes for gorgeous dewy skin.

At Victoria Beckham’s catwalk show, glowing natural skin dominated the catwalk with bare lips but every now and then a bold pop of orange and red hues adorned the lips, creating one of the best looks this season.
The look was completed with perfected skin, groomed brows and sleek straight hair, leaving all the attention of the tomato-based glossy stain.

The Golden Eye
Whether it’s full-on glitter or a subtle bronzed finish, metallic eyes made a big impact on the SS16 runways. Models walking the runways for Alice + Olivia, Derek Lam and Creatures of the Wind all rocked the wearable and glamorous trend.
At Alice + Olivia, makeup artist for Stila Sarah Lucero took inspiration from the desert to create this metallic look. Lucero layered the eyelid with Stila Magnificent Metal Eyeshadow in the shades Comex Gold and Gilded Gold for this bronzed look.

At Derek Lam, golden eyes were interpreted in a modern and understated way. Golden eyeshadow was applied to the lower lash line for a soft, sexy look while the rest of the face was kept neutral with a nude lip finishing off the look.

The Pretty Blush
One of the easiest trends to try and wear on a day-to-day basis is blush and flushed cheeks were seen all over the SS16 runways. Designers like Balmain, Chanel, Isabel Marant and Alexander McQueen all mastered the art of rosy, pretty cheeks this season. It gives the skin an instant boost and makes your whole look instantly fresh-faced; apply to the apples of your cheeks and up towards your temples for a brightening look.
At Paris Fashion Week, Balmain showcased the trend as makeup artist Tom Pecheux created a glamorous and glowing look with strong brows, flushes of color on the cheeks and curled lashes.
