Some eyes are droopy in appearance because of heavy-looking eyelids. Droopy eyelids are caused by excessive stress and aging. Unfortunately, droopy eyes can also make a person look tired and older than they actually are.
Here are five ways to lift your droopy eyes and make them appear bigger.
1. Accentuate Your Brows
Drawing in your brows can completely change the overall look of your eyes. It’s still a struggle for me to draw in my eyebrows correctly because my eyebrows are dark; they’re even much darker than my natural hair.
Find a powdered eyeshadow, not a liner pencil, that matches the color of your eyebrows. Use as little as you can of the shadow, and apply it to your brows using an angled brush.
To make your brows look as natural as possible, apply the shadow using short strokes. It is very important not to use too much shadow unless you like having powder all over your face. You can also line the bottom of your brows with a line of white eyeshadow to highlight your brow.
2. Draw Attention Away from Your Lids
When a person has droopy eyes, it usually means that their eyelids sag over their eyes, making their eyes appear heavy—hence the droopiness. The best thing to do is to draw attention away from the lids. Using natural colors can help you achieve this look most effectively.
Apply a nude color to your entire lid. Then, apply a medium brown color to the outside of your eyelid and in the crease. The brown shadow should point towards the end of your eyebrow, and fill the entire corner of your eye.
Another trick is to apply blue shadow to the corner of your eye in a “>” shape. Make sure that there is not too much blue—a little goes a long way. Blend the brown and blue colors together towards your tear duct.
3. Line Your Top Lid
The biggest mistake people make is putting eyeliner on their lower lash line. Doing this actually makes your eyes look smaller.
Applying black liner to the top of your upper lash line can make your eyes pop and make them look wider. Using a gel liner and a liner brush works best for more control in making a precise line. If you’re a beginner, you don’t have to do a crazy wing.
Try to get the line as close to your upper lash line as you can. Get it close enough where you cannot see any space between your eyeshadow and your lashes.
Start with a very thin line close to your tear duct and make the line wider and more pronounced as you get closer to the edge of your eye, near the brown and blue shadow.
4. Less Liner, More Shadow
Like I said before, putting liner on your lower lash line will make your eyes seem smaller and closer together. Instead of applying eyeliner to your lower lash line, apply eyeshadow under your lower lashes. Apply a shimmery white to the area around your tear duct.
This will make your eyes pop and give more contrast to your eyes. Towards the middle of your lower lash line, apply a nude or light brown color. With all of these, get the shadow right under your lash line.
Only apply a thin line of this otherwise you will look like a raccoon. Apply the same brown and blue color towards the edge of your eye, right under the lash line like the other two colors. Remember, no raccoon eyes. Gently blend these colors together. This will get the effect you want without the harshness of the black line.
5. Mascara, Mascara, Mascara
If applied carefully, mascara will pull the entire look together. Using an eyelash curler before applying your mascara will make your lashes appear longer and more voluminous.
Apply a base coat of mascara slowly to the base of your lashes and carefully pull through to the tip of your lashes. Gently moving your mascara wand from side to side will help to prevent your mascara from clumping. After this coat has dried, apply another coat to make your lashes appear longer and even more voluminous.
Bonus Tips:
Primer is a great tool to make your makeup last for the entire day. There are a few primers I use that have worked the best.
1. Eyebrow Primer: It is a clear gel that helps you to shape your eyebrows into the way you want them to look.
2. Eyeshadow Primer: It is a nude color that helps your eyeshadow stick to your eyelid longer. It also makes the colors look more vibrant and stay in the shape you’ve drawn on.
3. Eyelash Primer: It is also a gel, like the eyebrow primer. It makes your eyelashes look longer and makes it harder for the mascara to chip off during the day.
So there you go: five simple things you can do to make your eyes look less droopy. There seems like a lot involved in this process, but it is very simple and will only take a few minutes.
