What to Do When You Poke Your Eye with Mascara

You’re 20 minutes late for work. You're swiping on some mascara (way too fast). And boop. You stick the whole damn wand in your eye, flinch and send black goop all the way from your brow to your cheek.
Here’s how to fix it.
Step 1: Take a deep breath. All hope is not lost.
Step 2: Pull out a Q-tip and squeeze a tiny dollop of moisturizer onto it. Not makeup remover…moisturizer.
Step 3: Dab the damp Q-tip on the affected part of your skin (say, in your under eye area). Push down slightly and swipe sideways to remove.
Step 4: Reapply and re-blend any concealer, eye shadow or liner that may have come off in the process.
Why this works: Your nightly oil-based makeup remover is far too thin and will likely cause surrounding makeup to smear. But a drop of plain old face cream has a thicker and softer consistency, meaning it will latch onto any rogue smudges and spot-treat like a charm.
