Turn Your Curling Iron into a Wand

Ever wonder what’s the number one most requested hairstyle in salons? We bet you can guess.
According to Brandon Shin, stylist and owner of Brush in New York City, it’s those Victoria’s Secret bombshell curls. (Told ya you could have guessed.)
But, to be honest, Shin finds that look rather dated (and a touch too prim). Instead, he has a trick up his sleeve to help you achieve a similar style with just a little more edge.
Here’s how it works: Begin with blow-dried hair and a 1¼-inch curling iron. Shin recommends Cricket’s Ultra Smooth Professional Curling Iron, but you can use whatever you have handy.
Next, instead of using the clamp on your iron as you curl--ready for this?--use your iron like acurling wand. In other words, wrap sections of hair around the iron (over the clamp instead of inside). By doing this, you achieve straighter ends and an overall more casual feel.
While styling, wrap hair away from your face and hold the iron at a 45-degree angle, especially in the front. Keep your hair on the iron for about 10 seconds (depending on thickness). Repeat until all sections are curled.
Comb through with your fingers and voilà: natural, “I woke up like this” curls that you achieved without even stepping foot in a blow-dry bar. (Hey, they’re all booked up anyway.)
