Modern bridal hair styles

Feeling relaxed on your wedding day is key to enjoying yourself, so finding a hair style and stylist that you are totally happy with is essential. You need to choose a style that you can wear all day, that suits the theme and feel of the wedding, and that works well with the accessories you have chosen. Here are a few modern bridal hair styles to give you some inspiration.

Match Your Hairstyle to Your Wedding Theme

If you are having a traditional wedding you will probably be looking for a classic bridal hairstyle. For a modern twist on a classic style, a low slung ponytail bun, accessorised with jewels or flowers is a fashionable option. Keep the hair pulled tight to the head, and wear the bun with a fringe that slants diagonally across your forehead, tucking behind your ear. Straight wisps of hair pulled out in front of the ear can soften this look.
For a more contemporary wedding, you might look for a modern up do. A current favourite is to create two or three small ponytails starting at the crown and going down the back of the head. The ponytails and then the rest of the hair can be wrapped around and pinned in place creating structured curls with spiky ends for a really progressive style.

Accessories to Complement Your Wedding Hairstyle

If you are wearing a classic long veil, your hairstyle will need to be able to take a little weight. The veil should be attached to your head at the crown if you are wearing your hair loose, or can be attached underneath an up do to avoid ruining the style.
A shorter, elbow length veil will be much lighter, and won’t ruin your style. These tend to look best with short hair or an up do. Ask your stylist to attach your veil, and if you want to be able to take it off after the ceremony, make sure they are aware of that.

Modern hair corsages, both fresh and fabric, are a key look this season. Wear yours at the side of a bun or chignon, or behind your ear if you are wearing your hair down with waves. Fix your corsage in place with plenty of grips so you aren’t worried about it coming loose.
Jewelled accessories, such as tiaras and ornate combs work with a wide variety of hairstyles, and can add the wow factor to your bridal hairstyle. Narrow Alice bands are also a simple way to achieve a sleek modern style. When you are using a tiara, be sure not to let the hair raise up at the sides as this can create a dated look, the hair should be drawn back for a contemporary look.

When to Book Your Hair Stylist

Book your hairstylist four to five months before your wedding to make sure you get the one you want, and to give yourself time for a trial run. If you usually colour your hair, or have highlights, try to get it done a couple of days before the wedding so it is still looking fresh and there’s no time for roots to grow. If you are considering a complete change of colour, have it done at least six weeks before the wedding so that you can decide whether you like it, you can always have the roots touched up before the big day.
