If ever there was a champion for real women — from the way they talk to what they laugh about to what they wear — it’s our forever-fave movie star and new fave fashion designer, Melissa McCarthy. (Although this whole Gilmore Girls thing is really breaking our hearts, but that‘s for another post… ) After being frustrated by limited style options for real women, Melissa, who went to design school, announced that she’d be creating her own collection in 2014. After a successful fall launch, her spring collection Melissa McCarthy Seven7 just dropped on melissamccarthy.com and HSN. The stylish star spoke to Brit + Co about the trends we should all get pumped to wear this spring. Bonus: The line ranges from a size 4 to 26.
Melissa is right on trend with what is on the runways, with a collection that takes a decidedly ‘70s spin. “I’ve always been obsessed with the drape and sex appeal of certain ’70s dresses,” she shares with us. Her love of this decade translates into 7-day-a-week wearable pieces such as kimonos, jumpsuits, maxi dresses and lots of denim.
When it comes to busy girl style hacks, Melissa knows we need some versatility in our lives. Her secret? The maxi dress. “The beauty of the maxi dress is that you can throw it on and feel instantly pulled together,” She shares. “Dressed up with wedges or dressed down with a gladiator sandal, it’s an incredibly versatile piece that should be a staple in every woman’s spring wardrobe.” Amen to that!
The collection ranges from the affordable $59 to $159, with cool, maker-approvedpaint-splattered jeans ($118) and a baby blue duster coat ($159) among some of our favorites. Here’s to hoping she branches out to accessories next.
