Between the contouring kit you picked up earlier this year and that insanely versatile taupe shadow you can't live without (it doubles as a brow powder!), the probability of opening your makeup bag and finding a chalky explosion after a long day of travel is high. And though you can bring a broken compact back to life, you could also just avoid the mess altogether with something you already have in your medicine cabinet.
What you need: A few cotton balls or rounds (depending on the size and depth of your compact)
What you do: Open your compact and place your cotton of choice on top of the powder. Snap the case securely shut.
Why this works: The extra padding will ensure that even when the well-meaning luggage handler slams your suitcase onto the gurney, there's a little cushion to protect your powder.
The result: No more cracks, spills and shattered dreams of smoky eyes.
