With the holidays almost over (can’t forget New Years Eve – do you have your party dress?) and winter just getting in full swing, it’s easy to throw any fashion aspirations to the wind and go with jeans and a warm coat every day. Cozy as that is, there other are ways to dress up and stay warm. The solution for winter fashion post-holiday? Going monochrome!

I’ve sported a completely black and white ensemble a few times on camera, and it always makes me want to get creative with my fashion… With black and white, you only have two shades to work with, so you have to stretch that imagination. But with the right fits and combinations, it can be sleeker and sexier than any cocktail dress or red pumps.
Colorblock it. Here’s an easy way to pull off the look – start with a white sweater and black denim, or a black address and white blazer… You get the idea. From there, find accessories to polish off the look. I’m all for a black handbag and sunglasses as a simple pairing.
Go graphic. Grids, pinstripes, checkers – fine lines and negative space are IN right now. If you have more of a feminine style like I do, you can always soften the look with a flirty hairstyle and pink lips or cheeks like I did on Good Day LA. Don’t be afraid to mix ‘n match a couple different patterns, as long as they’re black and white. Bonus if your tech goes along with the look too!
Solidify. If mixing prints isn’t your thing or you’re just obsessing over a mostly black or mostly white look, run with it! Both black and white can be chic OR casual, and you can use the contrasting shade to accent it with accessories or jewelry.
Stripe right. Stripes are the most classic way to wear head to toe B&W, but it takes a little perfecting. My tip would be to start your search with the kind of stripes that are most flattering on your body type and go from there. As long as the fit is right, stripes on stripes can be fabulous.
Gray scale. The skirt above has hints of gray which can be a great way of breaking up the black and white without injecting color where you don’t want it. Plus, it makes for a more intriguing print. The trick? Use sparingly!
