How to Do a Trendy (and Easy!) Reverse French Manicure

Nails, Makeup, Manicure, Girl, Female
If you've always admired Instagram-friendly nail art from afar but were too afraid to try it yourself, fear not: This tutorial is for you. Nail pro Holly Falcone shows exactly how you can get this totally trendy mani, also known as the "half moon," in just a few quick steps.
Note: This look works best with long nails, but short-nailed ladies can rock it, too. Just file your tips to a round or oval shape for the most elegant overall look.

1. Start with a base coat.

If you've grown accustomed to skipping this step, stop that bad habit right now and apply one. We like Morgan Taylor Stick With It Base Coat ($7, Loxabeauty.com). For starters, a base coat protects your nails from becoming yellow, stained, or brittle. On top of that, it makes your polish last longer — and if you're spending time doing your nails, you want them looking glam for as long as possible.

2. Apply the first color all over nails.

After your base coat dries, apply two coats of a metallic shade, like Essie Nail Polish in No Place Like Chrome ($8.50, Essie.com). Wait until it's thoroughly dry to proceed — you don't want it blending in with your next color.

3. Paint on a contrasting shade.

Pick a second color, like Essie Nail Polish in Midnight Cami ($8.50, Essie.com) and swipe it down the center of your nails. Now apply two more swipes, one on each side of the center swipe — the color should reach the ends of your nail bed.

4. Finish it off with top coat.

Seal your design with a glossy top coat, such as Londontown Kur: Protective Top Coat ($25, Londontown.com).
